Since ADV is now claiming losses under anti-trust statutes, that automatically moves it to Federal court. Anti-trust cases are under their jurisdiction. The cases will now get even more expensive and take longer to fight out, especially with the huge numbers of judicial vacancies in federal courts and the large backlog of cases. Of course, the upside is that Funimationa and ADV may be more likely to settle.

I figured this was only a matter of time and wondered how long before ADV would file it.

Yeah I saw about it moving up to Federal. Kind of wonder if something did not come out that the state felt they could not handle or maybe one of the parties thought the state laws were not going to go the way they wanted.

FUNi is the one that filed for removal.
I guess something about the counter claim they didn't like or wanted a higher authority on the matter.

ADV vs. Funimation: A Brief Analysis of ADV's Breakup

I think what is most interesting about this article, is that ADV claims that Funimation tried to acquire some of their debt before their partnership with Sojitz and ARM. If true, it would explain a lot.

Yeah, that's one of the more interesting little tidbits I read in the docs a couple weeks back.

ADV claims that FUNi tried to buy ADVs debt from Whitney Bank, the senior secured creditor way back in 2006, before all these other shenanigans, and Whitney Bank refused.

I think everything makes it pretty clear that Funimation was trying to acquire ADV's assets, but was trying to do so as cheaply as possible. ADV could have a pretty convincing anti-trust case.

Personally, I think Funimation has one prize asset in mind, one that they've been unable to compete with so far....

I love the fact that there are still some delusional fans that seem to think that Geneon would still be around if the deal with ADV had never been negotiated.

Really the older more mature voice in my head thinks the best thing for us fans to do is remember there is probably more we don't know and may never know. Of course some of us were getting info from reliable sources so we may have our reasons for the way we think about all of this.

With that said you know I keep thinking about this sketch from In Living Color.

It just fits in my head with all of this.

Wow, I think I went back in time, this licensing price list was featured on ANN (usually the internet's slowest anime news source, he typed snarkily) over 5 months ago.

No, but I'm positive that I would have a copy of Gurren Lagaan on my shelf if Bandai hadn't screwed ADV with that dub. Maybe ADV and Bandai could still be here today, but we'll never truly know

What would Funimation do if it collected the ~8 million bucks it claims that it is "owed"? As a fan, what improvements would I see? Right now they appear to have far more money than Sentai, and yet Sentai churns out products which are better in the most important areas (eg:dubs, release turnarounds).

On money, Funi, and Geneon, this lawsuit is saving me tons of anime money as it gives me a pretty solid reason to abstain from buying any physical releases from Funimation that aren't Geneon rescue releases.
