Since I'm watching this on VOD for the first time (haven't seen it before), I just can't help but internally laugh and point at the screen saying "It's Cpt. Gloval!" every time I see Cpt. Nemo.

Robotech is so ingrained in my memory that I just can't help hearing Guy Garrett's voice in my head when Cpt. Nemo speaks.
    It's actually rather amusing.

John Lennon's Son Sean Co-Creates Ghost in the Shell Arise 3's Ending Song

    posted on 2014-04-18 18:30 EDT

Lennon wrote & sang lyrics while soundtrack composer Cornelius scored & arranged

Sean Lennon, the son of the late musician John Lennon and artist Yoko Ono, co-created the ending theme song for Ghost in the Shell Arise border: 3 Ghost Tears with Keigo Oyamada (also known as Cornelius). A professional musician in his own right, Lennon wrote the lyrics and sang the song "Heart Grenade," while Cornelius composed and arranged the music.

The collaboration came about when Cornelius, who is scoring the anime's soundtrack, attended a live performance by Ono in London. He talked with Lennon about his current projects, and when Lennon heard about Ghost in the Shell Arise, he professed that he is a fan.

Lennon and Cornelius have known each other well before this collaboration, since they worked together in Ono's Plastic Ono Band. However, this is the first time that Lennon is writing and singing lyrics with music by Cornelius. Cornelius added that Lennon has already known Ghost in the Shell, so Lennon wrote lyrics that demonstrated a good understanding of the story world. Since this episode has a love story, Cornelius said that Lennon's "sweet voice" matched the story.

In addition to loving Japanese animation himself, Lennon said his American friends also love it, so he is thrilled to work on the music for this anime. Cornelius explained the episode's story is about a contract killer who falls in love with his target, a cyborg.

Ghost in the Shell Arise border: 3 Ghost Tears will open in Japan on June 28, and it finally assembles all the members of the team. Funimation licensed the four-part anime and released the first episode in a special imported edition in August. The company plans to screen the first two episodes in a limited theatrical run later this year. The company is also offering the special-edition release prior to its typical English-language home video release.

  • It's cool that they do this. What isn't cool is the resulting dub, and the bad habits that they ingrain in the actors, but if Mignogna/Haberkorn/Leigh/Spencer can't get bang zoom onto the "straight and narrow" then there's no way that fresh-faced dubbers taken "off the street" can. I can hope though.

Sailor Moon's April 27 Live-Streamed Event to Unveil New Anime Cast

    posted on 2014-04-18 16:20 EDT

Guests include producer, director, manga editor, stage musical's cast

The official website for the Sailor Moon manga/anime franchise's 20th anniversary reported this month that there will be a special stage event at the Niconico Chōkaigi 3 convention on April 27 at 4:00 p.m. (3:00 a.m. ET). The website then reported that the event will unveil the cast for the new Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal anime, and all five main cast members from the stage musical will also appear. Scheduled guests include the new anime's director Munehisa Sakai, producer Yū Kamiki, and Fumio Osano (the Sailor Moon manga's Kodansha editor who is known by his nickname "Osabu.") People who attend the event will receive a postcard with the anime's key visual.

The Niconico service will stream the event live.

Takeuchi launched the original manga in Nakayoshi in 1992, and the hit anime premiered that same year. The manga inspired 27 earlier stage musical runs with over 800 performances between 1993 and 2005. Toei's new Sailor Moon Crystal anime series will premiere in July.

A second new musical will debut this summer. The musical will take place in the far-future of Crystal Tokyo and detail the battle against the Black Moon clan. The first all-female revival musical "Sailor Moon: La Reconquista" debuted in September.
