Offering our apoplogies....there was no intent to mis-lead the fans. There was a mis-communication internally and even though at least 10 people proofed the packaging, the fact the packaging incorrectly said 'sub-titled' was missed by everyone, incluiding byTOEI. As best as I understand, the series was only available in Japanese language or dubbed into English, it was never sub-titled. Galaxy Express 999 will only be available in Japense or sub-titlerd as they never did an English language version (according to TOEI)


What is the point of the Japanese track even being there if they did not subtitle it? Take up already limited disc space?

Well both these series are still on my list to buy.

It looks like the packaging is nice and no-one appears to be complaining about the video quality.

Shame about the subtitles goof up, but it just proves that the folks involved are human. Amazing thing that.

It is run by former Rhino people like Shout Factory but at least in Shout Factories case they learned from Rhino's mistakes. It seems the Smores people did not. Which makes me think they were the people that made the mistakes in the first place. If they'd just looked around I'm sure they could have found some former fansubber who'd done it for a quite reasonable price. It sounds more to me like this is pure laziness and as was common with Rhino they placed the blame on someone else. In this case Toei for not having subtitles and not wanting to pay for them to be done. The deal for the episode count is still a deal in a way but I'm going to be passing on this and hope they at least get Galaxy Express 999 TV right. At this point I think we'd been better off with Mill Creek and that's not saying much.

Amazon will probably remove or put a investigation thing up soon.

i swear i saw Galaxy Express 999 (not just the movie) and it had English spoken words, and was ON TV...many many years ago.

The TV series was never dubbed into English. Two of the movies were, and it's spin off Galaxy Railways.

S'more Ent. Removes Galaxy Express 999 Box 2 From Schedule

1st DVD set of Leiji Matsumoto's space opera sold under 2,000 units

North American distributor S'more Entertainment confirmed on Tuesday that it removed the second DVD box set of Galaxy Express 999 from its schedule until further notice. The company stated that "the costs of bringing a 4-DVD box set to market and to sell less than 2,000 units is a money-losing proposition."

S'more Entertainment confirmed last year that it had licensed the classic 1978-1981 television series from director Rintaro, and it released the first DVD box in November. The anime adapts Leiji Matsumoto's space opera manga of the same name.

The story follows a young orphan named Tetsuro as he travels with a mysterious woman named Maetel through the galaxy on a space train, in the hopes of obtaining a cybernetic body. The train stops at many planets along the way, often leading to adventures for the two.

Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu have been streaming the television anime series outside Japan since 2009. The original manga also inspired a 1979 film that Viz once licensed in North America along with its sequel Adieu Galaxy Express 999. Discotek released these two films and Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy on DVD. De Agostini Japan is releasing the entire series on DVDs bundled with semi-monthly magazines.
