One day while walking home she is attacked by a fearsome monster and saved mysterious boy named Shun. The film distributor GKids announced that Makoto Shinkai 's latest animated feature, Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, will be screening at New York City's IFC Theater. Show times are scheduled for the following two weekends, April 21 and 22 as well as April 28 and 29, at 11:00 am. Ticket purchases are available Movietickets.com

Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below centers on Asuna, a girl who spends her solitary days listening to the mysterious music emanating from the crystal radio she received from her father as a memento. However, she embarks on a journey of adventure to find a mysterious boy she just met, and thus comes to know the cruelty and beauty of the world, as well as loss.

The film is the latest work by Shinkai, the creator of Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and 5 Centimeters Per Second. Takayo Nishimura (5 Centimeters Per Second, Before Green Gables) designed the characters and oversaw the animation process. Takumi Tanji (5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days) directed the art, and musical composer Tenmon (5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, Voices of a Distant Star) collaborated with Shinkai again on this project. The film held its North American premiere at Otakon last July.

However, Shun disappears and Asuna embarks on a journey of adventure to the land of Agartha with her teacher Mr. Morisaki to meet a Shun again.

It's almost springtime, the time when cherry blossoms bloom, and that means that Global Shinkai Day is just around the corner! Global Shinkai Day is a world-wide online film festival featuring the films and works of CoMix Wave Films Director/Creator extraordinaire Makoto Shinkai. This year, we will be celebrating the works of Makoto Shinkai from Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17, for a special Shinkai Weekend celebration!

We will be featuring three of Shinkai's works from the past, 5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and Voices of a Distant Star, available during the weekend for ALL MEMBERS WORLDWIDE (ex Japan).


5 Centimeters Per Second

Tohno Takaki and Shinohara Akari are two classmates in an elementary school. During their time together they have become close friends. Their relationship is tested when Akari transfers to another city because of her parents' jobs. Both of them struggle to keep their friendship alive as time and distance slowly pulls them apart. When Takaki finds out that he is moving farther away, he decides to visit Akari one last time.

Beginning with the lyrical image of cherry blossoms falling at five centimeters a second, Makoto Shinkai paints a breathtaking vivid tableau of young love, desire, loss, and hope.
