I don't think a video game system has gone through so many redesigns since the Sega Genesis. Shows you just how stagnant this generation has become.
This continues to show that Sony isn't a great company anymore. A flip top lid is horrible and a step back in time. Wasting plastic in this day and age isn't smart.
I don't think a flip top lid really wastes much plastic. The mechanisms and gears aren't that large and don't really consume a lot more resources than mechanisms in a slot loading drive. On the upside, you don't have to worry about getting your disc out if the drive stops working.
I will wait until official unveiling before making any judgements on its looks.
People have been modding their PS3s with flip top lids since the original fat system. A lot of people prefer the flip top lid.
I don't really see what the big deal is with them releasing another redesign of their console so close to the end of the current generation. Does nobody remember the PSone? The redesign of the original playstation they released the same year as the playstation 2. People just need to let Sony do what they want and quit whining.
When the next generation of consoles is finally released, I don't think they're going to be much better graphically. They'll have better processors and more memory, but that's really about it. There hasn't been a significant increase in visual graphics in quite some time, so the next generation is probably going to start focusing on more social stuff. They're just going to have all the boring useless social networking stuff they've released over the years come standard with the new consoles.
