Themselves. CN has no interest in anime anymore. Naruto Shippuden going to Disney XD and now Dragonball Z Kai going to Nicktoons is proof enough and I'll be honest with you. I'm glad. Cartoon Network is doing just fine with their current formula and don't NEED anime to prove their number 1. Other kids networks like Nicktoons and Disney XD need help and to see anime expanding their brands is great. I've seen CN's development/programming slate for 2010 and it's the way it should be for them...non anime.

I WANT to have a reason to watch these other networks if I have to pay for them. It has happened.

Thanks Sbitzer!

My anime attack is:
Double Sword Twinray (Good)
Total Destruction (Evil)

Nicktoons Streams 5 Dragon Ball Z Kai Clips
Condensed version of Dragon Ball Z to premiere on U.S. channel in May

The official website of America's Nicktoons television channel is hosting five English-dubbed video clips from the "Dragon Ball Z Kai" anime series. "Dragon Ball Z Kai" will premiere on Nicktoons next month. Nicktoons is a spinoff of Nickelodeon, which announced Nicktoons' acquisitions of "Dragon Ball Z Kai" and "Voltron Force" in a press release last month.

The "Dragon Ball Kai" television series condenses the 1989-1996 "Dragon Ball Z" anime series to more closely follow Akira Toriyama's original "Dragon Ball" manga. In addition to a digital high-definition remastering and a re-recorded soundtrack, "Dragon Ball Kai" also updates selected scenes with new effects or re-animated footage. The series premiered under the name "Dragon Ball Kai" in Japan last April, and it has consistently ranked among the top 10 anime in viewer ratings every week since. Nicktoons' video clips have some differences from the version that is airing on Japanese television.

Funimation had licensed the series for North America, and it plans to ship the first part of the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on May 18. The distributor already licensed both the "Dragon Ball Z" television series and the earlier "Dragon Ball" television series for North America. Funimation reassembled most of its original "Dragon Ball Z" cast for the English dubbing of "Dragon Ball Z Kai", except for four new cast members. Viz Media publishes the original manga in North America.

Dragon Ball Z Kai to Air on TheCW4Kids on Saturdays
Anime to premiere during 2010-2011 season, with summer sneak peaks

The American anime distributor Funimation and the anime licensing company 4Kids Entertainment have announced that the "Dragon Ball Z Kai" action anime series will air on Saturdays during the 2010-2011 television broadcast season on TheCW4Kids programming block. Before the regular season premiere, TheCW4Kids will run "sneak peeks" of the anime during the summer, and the program will also be streaming from the www.4kids.tv and www.4kidstv.com websites.

"Dragon Ball Z Kai" is already slated to launch on Nicktoons, a spinoff of America's Nickelodeon television channel, in May. The television series condenses the 1989-1996 "Dragon Ball Z" anime series to more closely follow Akira Toriyama's original "Dragon Ball" manga. In addition to a digital high-definition remastering and a re-recorded soundtrack, "Dragon Ball Kai" also updates selected scenes with new effects or re-animated footage. Given the way they've treated anime fans for so long, I wouldn't go out of my way to watch a show there. In fact I don't, I only watch the 4:00 am rerun of FMA:B and I've missed a few of them. So a premier of any show not doing well is no shocker. They only have themselves to blame if you ask me.

Nicktoons Launches U.S. Series Premiere of Highly Anticipated Anime Series Dragon Ball Z Kai Monday, May 24 at 8:00 PM
Re-Mastered for Dragon Ball Z's 20TH Anniversary, Series Kicks Off with Double Episode Premiere Week May 24-27

NEW YORK - May 5, 2010 - Coming off its most-watched and highest-rated first quarter ever with boys 6-11 and 9-14, Nicktoons launches the U.S. premiere of "Dragon Ball Z Kai" with a special premiere week of back-to-back episodes Monday, May 24, through Thursday, May 27, from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. ET. The latest chapter in the "Dragon Ball" franchise, "Dragon Ball Z Kai" is a re-edited rendition of Goku's efforts to save Earth from destruction with the help of his friends and the seven magic Dragon Balls. The 99-episode series will continue to roll out Monday through Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET.

"We're excited to be the home and destination of first premieres in the U.S. for Dragon Ball Z Kai," said Keith Dawkins, Nicktoons Network General Manager, Senior Vice President, Nickelodeon Programming Partnerships. "It's a fresh take on one anime's top all time TV series, and now a new generation of kids, as well as fans of the original series, can enjoy the series' suspenseful, exciting action that stays true to the story's initial manga form."

"Thanks to our partner, FUNimation, we are delighted that Dragon Ball Z Kai, a reinvented, enhanced version of Dragon Ball Z will make its U.S. premiere on Nicktoons," said Kanji Kazahaya, Director of Toei Animation Co., Ltd. "MTV Networks has been our strategic partner in the global market and this new relationship with Nicktoons in the U.S. will attract a new generation of fans to the Dragon Ball franchise."

Nicktoons just saw its most-watched first quarter performance ever with kids 6-11 (+2%) and tweens 9-14, as well as its most-watched and highest-rated first quarter ever with boys 6-11 (+9%) and boys 9-14 (+4%) year to date. Currently, the network continues posting gains with its key demos boys 6-11 (+7) and boys 9-14 (+5%).

From FUNimation Entertainment and Toei Animation Co., Ltd., "Dragon Ball Z Kai" is an anime series that follows the adventures of Son Goku and his ongoing battles to protect the Planet Earth from destruction by the last descendants of an evil race of warriors known as the Saiyans. The Saiyans are on a collision course with Earth and Goku - the strongest fighter on the planet - is all that stands between humanity and extinction. To save his friends and the world he loves, Goku must travel to a realm from which few return, but should he survive, he'll discover the power to face the villainous Saiyan warlord, Prince Vegeta.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the legendary series "Dragon Ball Z", show creator and acclaimed Japanese manga artist Akira Toriyama, along with Toei Animation Co. Ltd. and Shueisha, Inc. created "Dragon Ball Z Kai" in which the "Dragon Ball Z" story is retold to more closely follow Toriyama's original tale about a brave young warrior named Goku. A project personally overseen by Toriyama, "Dragon Ball Z" has been re-edited and remade using the latest in digital technology, including a full HD-re-mastering of the original film. The series features updated opening and closing sequences, renewed soundtracks and a re-recording of the series by key members of the original English-voice cast, including Sean Schemmel, Christopher R. Sabat (director), Justin Cook and Mike McFarland, among others.

FUNimation Entertainment will release "Dragon Ball Z Kai Part One" on DVD and Blu-ray on May 18.

I thought I might watch it, but then I found out it was just re-edited and made HD by cutting off some of the picture. But if it was in HD I may have watched it. I normally would never watch something if they stretch or cut off some of the picture.

Since its on Nicktoons though its just in widescreen Nicktoons doesn't have an HD channel and haven't heard of any plans for one anytime soon. Why would they get something thats HD and put it on a non HD channel. Now if they played re-runs on Nickelodeon, I would watch it as it would be in HD (if your provider has the HD channel, I won't until about June).

It's still worth watching. Hearing the dub is actually good this time around, I may watch the TV airings.

I'll be watching this again. I am a bigger fan of the original Dragon Ball, but I loved the first season and a half of Z. I hope the dubs are better than the dubs Funimation did. The Oceans Group dub was so much better.
Slick
