Episode 9 –
Warning: Spoiler! As Michiko tells her classmates the basic story of her as yet unfinished play, it's odd how it mirrors the real story of Mari and Hagino so closely. Michiko has some really great insight and although she doesn't realize it, she may be predicating the future as well. Not only is her statement about hope and the future prophetic, but it also seems to be the underlying theme of the whole Blue Drop story.
After Michiko finishes speaking, her classmates are stunned into silence and she thinks that they don't like her story until Mari breaks the ice and with tears in her eyes, tells Michiko that her story is “awesome”. The rest of the class comes back to life as well and praise her, excited to begin work on the play. Even Yuko tells her that it's “perfect”.
Azanael criticizes Hagino's interaction with the humans to Tsubael, but Tsubael defends her commander and there are more hints that Azanael is up to something. Meanwhile, Hagino and Mari go shopping for supplies and Hagino invites Mari to visit her ship someday. Hagino is also surprised to find out that Blue and Hagino herself are familiar to Mari from a long time ago, but that Mari can't quite figure it out.
When they reach the city, Mari seems a bit overwhelmed by the city and all the big stores and I forget how protected she was growing up since her memory loss. It was really funny when Hagino scared her with the picture of the alien and also when Mari pretended to be a bride. However, it was nice to see the girls grow closer even though they were unknowingly being spied on the whole time. Azanael and Tsubael just don't understand how Hagino could have a friendship with a human, but Tsubael sees good changes in her commander and she knows it's because of Mari.
The girls decide to walk home, but when it starts to rain, they take shelter in an abandoned diner. They fall asleep and Hagino has a dream about the tragedy on Kamioki Island and how she saved Mari from drowning. But because of “contact telepathy” Mari shares the dream with her and wakes up thanking Hagino for her life as Azanael and Tsubael watch. Azanael feels shock and betrayal and is very hurt that Hagino saved a human over one of her own kind. Azanael more than ever feels that Hagino left Onomil to die.
Episode 10 –
Warning: Spoiler!Michiko has finally finished the script, but Yuko convinces her to be the director as well. As the class prepares, Azanael and Tsubael are still watching and even Tsubael is happy that Michiko has finished the play, but Azanael becomes annoyed and leaves the bridge. She still can't deal with Onomil's death.
Now Michiko has to assign the roles and is having just as hard a time with it as she did writing the play. Everyone is making the costumes and Hagino's fan club is fluttering about her as usual, only this time Mari seems overly jealous of them. I laughed when they told Mari that Hagino was their “raisin D entrée”. They flubbed that line so bad – no wonder Mari was totally confused! And watching all this, Michiko seems a bit apprehensive about her job as director.
Later, Mari and Hagino do some further work on the costumes in their room, and while Mari tells Hagino that she's glad they met, Hagino struggles to tell Mari something about the accident. Hagino ends up cutting her finger and Mari discovers that Arume blood is white. Hagino later visits with Michiko and they talk about the cast. Hagino encourages her to use whoever she wants and this now makes the play a joint effort between the class and the dorm.
Michiko gets her desired cast, but at the first reading, Mari is very stiff and gives no feeling to her words, while Hagino exhibits a natural talent that captivates them all immediately, leaving Mari feeling inadequate. Michiko later thanks Hagino for giving her the courage to speak up for what she wanted and Hagino repeats the words, knowing that she too must speak up with regards to Mari. She invites Mari to visit Blue, but when Azanael finds out, I think she feels further betrayal and presses something on the back of her necklace that actives the console on board her ship just as Hagino's ship arrives on Blue.
Hagino brings Mari to the bridge where she gets to meet Tsubael in the flesh as well as Azanael, but Azanael is nowhere near happy to meet her as she stares at Mari with a steely gaze. Other than that, Mari has a wonderful time and I think Hagino really enjoyed sharing Blue with her. But the time comes for the truth and with great difficulty, Hagino starts to tell Mari just as Blue stops and Hagino is called back to the bridge.
Another opportunity to talk is lost as problems have arisen with Blue's systems that demand all of Hagino's attention. Hagino asks Tsubael to take Mari to the residential quarters, but Azanael volunteers instead and a distracted Hagino agrees. This can't be good. Azanael takes Mari to her room which used to be Onomil's. As Blue's systems decline further, Mari accidentally activates the recording of Azanael and Onomil and finds out that the dead Onomil was everything to Azanael.
Hagino sees them on the view screen and realizing her mistake, rushes to Mari. However, Azanael has already begun to tell Mari about Onomil's death and the truth of Kamioki Island and Mari's own past. Outside the room, a hysterical Hagino beats against the locked door, begging Azanael to let her in. This was just so heart wrenching and I was glad to see Tsubael come to help her with the door. Azanael then tells a shocked Mari that Hagino was responsible for all of it, just as Tsubael breaks into the room. A panicked and crying Hagino reaches for Mari only to have Azanael shove an unresponsive Mari towards her. Azanael gets past Tsubael and makes her escape, pressing her necklace again and causing several explosions to aid her getaway as she taunts Mari. Azanael laughs in triumph as she flees the disabled Blue, leaving an upset Hagino to deal with a shocked Mari. And it's a very dramatic end to the episode with a sinking Blue.
