Have a little contest and give the barkeep voice roll to some lucky fan. It's just a couple lines, how hard could it be to find someone to speak them?
LOL, kinda like the contest the dubbers of Patlabor the TV Series ran back in "the day" for a fan to voice Ota's "blind date" (all of which was chronicled, in video, as a DVD extra that I hope Sentai/Maiden managed to preserve on their rescue release)?
Maybe they could get Stephen Foster to do it. His Orphen Outtakes were humorous IMO.
I've heard that Sentai dubs whole series in ~6 hours/actor. With that kind of breakneck speed it would only take them a few seconds to fix the lines in the last volumes and dub the silent bartender.
Sentai, if you do go back and dub it, please do not take out the "color filter" lines. Those were frickin' hilarious. Read More...
If they can plan to release this show, which aired later, in 2014 then why can't they give us Psycho Pass earlier?
Why is Funimation so slow?
Hopefully the dub for this will at least be well done, given how long it will take them; if they don't release the show until 2015 I won't be surprised. Read More...
I really hope that they "Fosterize" the hell outta this. We haven't had a truly "Fosterized" dub in eons so there's gotta be a ton of pent-up hilarity waiting to be realized in a dub. Make this that dub.
With 2 veteran actresses on board, actresses who were in the live-action part of Super Milk Chan, there's no doubt that they could pull it off. If ~10 year old commentary tracks are any judge, the consistently awesome Jessica Boone should be able to facilitate Fosterization with aplomb too.
C'mon Sentai, I know you guys can do this one justice. Read More...
Ouch. That dub could have been a LOT better. Dammit Funimation, you hit it out of the park with War on Geminar and now it sounds like you're striking out with this.
Funimation has a history of not being able to properly do comedy. They can't really do pervy either, so when it came to a pervy comedy they should have just left this one for Sentai to pick up. I mean, Goldenboy. Need I say more?
Was that Cherami Leigh in there? Whomever she was, actress wise, she sounded inappropriate for the character (Koneko Toujou), as the character is rather emotionless and this actress was emoting like a bad Shatner. Not to mention that they seemingly changed the character by having her use asinine & rather archaic English phrases like "That was dope."
Jamie Marchi has made her mark in anime playing irreverent, happy-go-lucky characters who may or may not be vacuous but who are always overtly sexual 100% of the time. This character, Rias, is not exactly that.
Rias is half Hime, the cold, calculating and conniving borderline dominatrix woman from Princess Resurrection and half Belldandy from Oh My Goddess!.
Rias acts like Issei's mom at times, going from badass to demure at the drop of a hat, which is hilariously creepy, but outside of the normal fare for Marchi. Marchi plays a similar character in War on Geminar but her character has an "older woman, younger guy" quasi-Mrs. Robinson thing going on, which is completely different than Rias' trend of becoming motherly as Marchi's character in War on Geminar doesn't turn off the sexuality, ever, while Rias does.
As much as I enjoyed this show, think I'm gonna pass on the BD, for now at least. This show was just so 'ugly' and grainy on DVD, think how more so it'll be on BD.
Maybe I'll give it another run thru to help me decide on BD or not.
While I don't think that this show is going to become a title to showcase HD anime when it is on blu-ray, after watching some of it again a few weeks ago I have to suspect that the limitations of the DVD are bringing the show down.
No matter what upscaler I use, whether it be PowerDVD, a hardware stand-alnone player or the vaunted PS3 DVD versions of shows look like crap on even a lower-end 1080 monitor by themselves and worse compared to their blu-ray counterparts. I don't know how I watched DVD quality video for so long as my first ever smartphone has a higher resolution than does DVD video.
If properly done ( ), and the 2008 Golgo 13 show was originally done in HD, the bluray will only be brought down by the cheap animation and illustration used in the show and not the limitations of the format and I'm willing to pay to see the show in such a way. Bring it on Sentai.
Just make sure that you make those wiley Japanese send you the proper video materials though. Read More...
I have to say I'm a bit surprised that they are going back and dubbing this. I'm guessing it must have either sold really, really well, or it was picked up in Australia or the UK. I guess time will tell.

I'm still holding out hope for Kurenai getting a dub; I'm mildly surprised that it seems catgirls > lolis. Read More...
Fandom post goes out of its way to point out that New Dominion is dubbed, despite being dvd only. This isn't really remarkable as I have other Section23 dvd-only releases that are dubbed. As such, I read it as meaning S23 would be giving it a new, much better, dub but I fear that is only wishful thinking. I do wonder why fandom had to point out the unremarkable though.
Um, I think that the original Manga UK dub will be on there. I'm pretty sure that goes for titles that are rescued.
Not every "rescue title" retains its original dub, as Maiden Japan's rescue of Black Magic M-66 shows.
Though the real mystery here is how what you said relates back to the content of you quoted. Read More...
So come September I can buy the blu-ray of this and watch it again? That's what the info going around the interwebs says but I almost can't believe it.
I had my doubts that this show was even "HD"...
Any bets on whether or not they'll fix the dub issues that were in the last 2 volumes (on DVD)? Read More...
Golgo 13 on BD? I appreciate it, and if it should truly happen I'll buy it, but I'm shocked to hear it. I wasn't even sure that it was "HD" to begin with. Read More...
Wow. I thought that Persona 4: The Animation was pretty blunt with addressing problems its creators believed were prevalent in society. I didn't think that a show could be "more blunt" about that. This show looks like it is set to shatter that notion (or lack thereof).
Didn't Fate/Zero just do this, only the boy wasn't such a stereotype and the older man had a kick-ass chariot instead of a tail, and without making it the whole show?
BTW, does the merman remind anyone else a bit of Vic's character from Level E?
Reading the description, shouldn't the title of this show be "This merman caught a boy" ? Read More...
Sentai, and even Funi, events are no where near as awesome at the later-summer cons that I regularly attend. Sentai's panel at Otakon last year just can't compete with what has been posted here, to pick an example. TBH it seemed that it was a miracle for Sentai to get any panel @ Otakon 2012.
Hopefully there will be some awesomeness left in Sentai's tank for the later in the year cons. Read More...
