Ouch. That dub could have been a LOT better. Dammit Funimation, you hit it out of the park with War on Geminar and now it sounds like you're striking out with this.
Funimation has a history of not being able to properly do comedy. They can't really do pervy either, so when it came to a pervy comedy they should have just left this one for Sentai to pick up. I mean, Goldenboy. Need I say more?
Jamie Marchi has made her mark in anime playing irreverent, happy-go-lucky characters who may or may not be vacuous but who are always overtly sexual 100% of the time. This character, Rias, is not exactly that.
Rias is half Hime, the cold, calculating and conniving borderline dominatrix woman from Princess Resurrection and half Belldandy from Oh My Goddess!.
Rias acts like Issei's mom at times, going from badass to demure at the drop of a hat, which is hilariously creepy, but outside of the normal fare for Marchi. Marchi plays a similar character in War on Geminar but her character has an "older woman, younger guy" quasi-Mrs. Robinson thing going on, which is completely different than Rias' trend of becoming motherly as Marchi's character in War on Geminar doesn't turn off the sexuality, ever, while Rias does.
Who directed this?
It's only a few bits from the first episode. I will allay my judgement Until I see it as a whole. It might take an episode or 2 for the actors to get in stride with the characters. Look at the Dusk Maiden dub as an example, it took Emily Neves, Clint Bickham and Jessica Boone about 2-3 episodes before they got comfortable with the characters (Although Brittney Karbowski was knocking it out of the park with Okonogi the whole time.) Why couldn't they have just kept on letting Funimation (and others) dub their stuff and release it here?
That an easy question to answer:Money pure and simple.
Look at it this way, By releasing it themselves and at a significantly higher price point (At least compared to the Blu-Ray Prices) They bank all the profits.
-To compare Blu-Ray releases Funimation and Sentai will sell 12-13 episode series at around $70 SRP, with Discounts that suppliers get they mark it down to about $42 which works out to about $3.50 an episode for a 12 episode series.
-Aniplex is releasing a 4 sets for the series charging $113 for 6-7 episodes, with supplier discounts it gets marked down to $90, which averages out to around $15.00 and episode. Now do you see why they are doing it? It's more profit for them.
I'm still trying to decide whether the Blu-Rays are worth it. I may just get the DVD's and save $160 bucks. I'll let you all know when they go up for pre-order on Tuesday Read More...
To show how much Microsoft is out of touch, just look at the Xbox 1 launch.
To sum up the new consoles
Microsoft
-Is kissing up to the Game publishers and the casuals, making a peripheral device mandatory which has face recognition software / hardware in it, and the device is always on. They are trying to kill used game sales etc.
*note that a lot of the big publishers will flock to this console and offer exclusives to the XB1. They are scared because of the funding successes of Star Citizen, Project: Eternity and Broken Age (Double fine Adventure)*
Sony
Catering to the gamers and game Developers, which is their core business. Everything Sony has said so far is making me lean toward the PS4. Read More...
The way the game works is that you give the title of the opening and ending song to an anime and then give the answer.
Only 1 rule: no mixing and matching So you can't use Bleach's season 1 opening song and season 10's closer as your pair. It has to be either season 10's opening and closing song title or both for season 1.
You can give a genre clue if you want. Here's an example:
Genre: Science fiction
Opening song title: Inner Universe
Closing Song title: Lithium Flower
The correct answer would be: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex season 1 Read More...
