Episode 1: Go to the West/To the Distant West

With the amount of demon attacks increasing and humanity threatened more and more, Sanzo Genjo is sent on a journey to the west in hopes of ending the up rise. Genjo will not undertake the journey alone however, as he is partnered with his friends (and demons) Goku, Gojyo, and Hakkai. The journey will be long and plagued with danger, but despite their differences, the four seem to be more than up to the task.


Episode 2: First Game / A Guide to the Netherworld

The group stops at a small hamlet to have a warm meal a cozy bed, but discover the tension that the demons have caused among the human population. Their journey and success becomes that much more imperative, but not if a traveling dance troupe lead by a devious spider woman has anything to say about it.


Episode 3: His God, My God / Where the Gods Are

The rocky terrain has made driving impossible, and weary and tired, the group finds a Buddhist monastery hidden away in the mountains. After realizing just who Sanzo is, the monks offer the four a place to rest, but it comes with its price. Because of their strict teachings, they aren't allowed to do anything that they would normally enjoy. No smoking, drinking, and no mah-jongg.


Episode 4: Crimson / Crimson Tears

After accidentally falling into a lake, the four friends are taken in a young girl and her aunt. While having a hot meal they discover that the girl, Shunrei, has long been awaiting the return of her lover who just happens to be a demon. Goyjo, upon hearing that the man's name is Jien, thinks it may be his brother. And, a band of demons spotted in the forest sends Shunrei to discover if it is lost love and the group follows to protect her.


Episode 5: Pure Assassin / A Beautiful Assassin

Having met failure after failure, Kougaiji's subordinate Yaone decides to undertake the mission of destroying Sanzo and the others herself. After taking a job as a waitress as a bar, she runs across her prey, but she realizes that perhaps her opinions of them may be incorrect. After failing to succeed, Kougaji arrives, but seemingly not to fight.


Episode 6: Rancorous Exchange / Unnatural Talismanic Monk

While taking time for some much needed rest, Sanzo has time for a bit of self-reflection about his past. Legends in the town speak of a monk named Rikudo who has been banishing demons and saving the residents from torment, but when he arrives during yet another demonic appearance, Sanzo realizes that Rikudo is really a former acquaintance that's now under the control of a consuming curse. Rikudo decides that since Sanzo is in the company of demons, he too must be destroyed, and a battle ensues.


Episode 7: Goodnight / A Twilight Farewell

With Sanzo badly wounded by Rikudo's attack, Goku loses his cool, and his power limiter. Now that his powers are out of check, and control, he can't determine who his friends or foes are, but some intervention for the Merciful Goddess not only brings him back to his former self, but she may be just the person to save Sanzo's life. Brought back from the brink of death, but in a weakened state, Sanzo decides that it's up to him alone to put an end to Rikuo's curse.


Episode 8: Confront / The Man Who Foretells Death

When the Sanzo party encounter a mysterious fortuneteller named Qin Yi Se, more dark secrets from Hakkai's past could be revealed. Qin Yi Se summons a powerful Shikigami to kill Hakkai. To make matters worse, Lirin, Kougaiji's stepsister, comes to try to retrieve the sutra from Sanzo.


Episode 9: Lethal Trap / Fight Party

The battle heats up, but yet remains at a standstill as the two factions continue to battle. It will be a short lived duel however when the demon crab, thought to be defeated, arises again and enemies quickly become allies.


Episode 10: Fake the Face / False Saviors

Continuing west, Sanzo and his friends come across another town. Long in the past, another priest who has taken the name Sanzo saved the town, and now they feel indebted to him and immediately offer the four anything that they want. But when another group arrives claiming to be Sanzo's party, the real heroes are believed to be frauds and are imprisoned. Maybe the arrival of a demon as well as some possession will be enough to sway popular opinion.


Episode 11: Tragic Revenge / The Laughing Grim Reaper

Hakkai continues to reflect on their recent encounter with Chin Yisou as memories of his past come flooding back to him. In order to clear his head, he takes a late night walk and is soon joined by Gojyo, but their talk will be short lived as they meet up with a shikigami sent by Yisou. It seems that the mad fortuneteller has a plan, and that's to get to Hakkai by making his friends suffer, starting by separating them from Goku, and then infecting Gojyo with a deadly plant.


Episode 12: Wandering Destiny / Battle Against the Darkness

The battle with Chin Yisou continues. Goku has sustained a broken leg, and Gojyo is still feeling the effects from Yisou's previous attack. Sanzo and Hakkai however break away from their two injured friends, hoping to confront Yisou head on and end the game of cat and mouse. However, Yious has one last trick up his sleeve, and it may cost Sanzo his life.


Episode 13: Crude Counterfeit / Fruit that Summons Death

Goku is hungry yet again, and that goes double when Lirin shows up. The two smell something, but the fruit that they find on a grand tree rots before they can even pick it. The tree however does sit on the grounds of a monastery, but the only inhabitants are two twin boys, Chinpu and Mingetsu, but Sanzo refuses their hospitality, and for good reason. The two "twins" are actually demons, but unfortunately Goku blieves that they have good intentions and sets out to prove Sanzo wrong.


Episode 14: Sweet Client / Their Promise

The group stops in a small town in order to take a break and restock on supplies. Gojyo however decides that it`s time to "cruise for chicks" but a small fight that he gets into lures the wrong type of woman to him. This one is a little girl, not his type at all, and try as he might, the young girl refuses to leave him alone. Demons have killed her family and friends, and she wants to hire him in order to get revenge. But Goyjo may not have what it take to go the route alone.


Episode 15: Fated Guys / The Binding Spell of Crimson

As the team sits out a rainstorm, Gojyo recalls a night three years prior where he met Hakkai on a deserted trail. The story split off and showed Sanzo with Goku at a local temple as well. Needless to say, this was where the foursome met each other and it provided some insight as to their current relationship.


Episode 16: Be There / An Ode to the Living

In part two of the previous episode, the three tried to track down Hakkai after he ran away from them. His past catches up to him in the form of the brother of one of his victims, and more details were unearthed about the team.


Episode 17: Eden / Eternal Paradise

As they continue westward, the team runs across a female demon that requests passage to a small town in a hidden valley. Upon arriving there, they find a dark mist has swallowed up the town and all but Sanzo are turned to stone. Is Sanzo the chosen one, or are they all done for? In a side plot, some of Lady Koushu's administrative team frets over the team's arrival in the town.


Episode 18: Vice or Justice / The Truth of Justice

Yaone is captured by a band of bounty hunters and the only way to free her is for Hakkai to fight an old friend. Past loyalties compete with current circumstances and eventually, a larger demon comes into play.


Episode 19: Don't Go Alone / Maidens of Sorrow

As their journey continues Sanzo and his friends have a chance encounter with four beautiful sisters. Sanzo however is the only one that's not interested, and warns his friends not to get involved. He may be right, as the sisters themselves are the victims of a parasite demon and he's agreed to leave their bodies, assuming of course they can kill the Sanzo party.


Episode 20: Sandstorm / The Quicksand Trap

The desert holds many perils, but that isn't going to stop Sanzo from making an unexpected stop. He's searching for a lost scripture, but the lair of the demon is buried much deeper than anyone could imagine, and the Scorpion demon lurking beneath the sands has set the perfect trap to capture the party.


Episode 21: Selfish / Berserking Toward Destruction

Sanzo has been poisoned and lies dying. It seems like it's impossible to find an antidote before the poison takes its effect, but when Kougaji arrives, he offers a solution. However, it means that Goku must defeat him in combat.


Episode 22: Devastation / The End of the Battle

Goku's battle against Kougaji rages on, and even though he's won, without his demon limiter, he's completely out of control. Even his friends can't stop his bloodthirsty rage.


Episode 23: Scapegoat / The Price of Submission

The Sanzo party finds themselves in a village where the citizens make a human sacrifice to the resident demon, or risk having their city destroyed. It seems that escape is impossible for them, but they also don't have the strength to defend themselves either.


Episode 24: Mother / Crimson Bond

The group finds a town short on food and water, and if that weren't bad enough, a new mother is having problems getting the townsfolk to give her the needed supplies for everyday life. The young mother recently has given birth to a half-demon/half human baby, and the villagers feel that she is to blame for the draught, and it gets worse when she transforms into a demon.


Episode 25: Tomfool! Tomboy! / Horrifying Assassins!

Once again Lilin, the young sister of Kogaiji, appears to challenge our heroes. Her trick is "Operation – Meat Bums on the Road" this time. It is an instant failure to induce our heroes, but surprisingly it works on three stupid monsters. They are defeated by Lilin and become her followers. Ordered by their new boss, they keep meddling in our heroes way.


Episode 26: Calling / The Cry that Does Not Reach

One of Kogaiji's troops called "Iron Demon Troop" assaults Sanzo and his comrades. The troop is completely destroyed by our heroes' overwhelming power. Rashu, the leader of the troop and a few soldiers narrowly survive. Rashu sets a trap to capture Sanzo and Goku in their armors.


Episode 27: Advent / The War Prince Descends

Our heroes encounter new enemies from the heavens. They are Prince Homura, Zenon and Shien. They are not human, nor are they monsters. They call themselves 'Gods'. Prince Homura is after Sanzo's Sutra of Dark Power. They say they know the previous existence of our heroes. What do they come down for…?


Episode 28: Lonely War / The Launch of a Rebellion

Abandoning the Celestial Heavens, Prince Homura, Zenon and Shien decide to build a new world. They choose the tower and castle made by Monster King Gailu and his warriors as their headquarters. The army of the Celestial Heavens led by three self-professed 'Gods' begins to attack to seize the tower. Leaving the battle field, Prince Homura goes to see King Gairu with an offer.


Episode 29: Unexpected Defeat / The Fall of Houtou Castle

The Celestial army destroys the monster-warriors and soldiers in Castle Houto. Kogaiji and his followers are surprised by this defeat. He then realizes the three self-professed 'Gods' are his father, Gyumao-Bull Satan and dashes to the underground laboratory where the experiment of resurrection is underway. With Dokkakuji's help, Kogaiji fights back against the Celestial army like a real devil.


Episode 30: Undertaker / An Invitation to Hell

Our heroes walk into a desolate village. They wonder what had happened here. Suddenly 4 coffins of equal size to each of our heroes are pushed out and the illusion of the creature called "The Undertaker" appears. The undertaker shows excessive courtesy to Sanzo and his comrades. Sha Gojyo is upset and Goku is about to burst out with rage. The undertaker keeps telling disgusting stories on and on. He rubs our heroes the wrong way and pushes their minds to the extreme.


Episode 31: Ambition / The Arrogance of the Gods

A platoon of five skilled warriors who scored high points at the military drill come to see Prince Homura. They want to join the army of the Celestial Heavens. Prince Homura orders the warriors to destroy Sanzo's party and get the magic sutra. The platoon marches out triumphantly. Sanzo's party suffers a hard fight to defeat the platoon of great teamwork.


Episode 32: Fake Star Strike Back / The Pride of Clowns

Our heroes meet the party of the bogus Sanzo again. After the incident some time ago, bogus Sanzo never introduces himself as the priest Sanzo. He and the impostors clatter in fear for a moment. Then the party of bogus heroes remembers their pride as the best impostors of the world. As a matter of fact they are sly and mean guys. They devise a plot to revenge the true heroes.


Episode 33: Faraway Dream / Dried Up Tears

The gang finds themselves in the middle of a blizzard. Then learn that its all a trap by a boy named Shouryu who has come for Sanzo's sutra. Who is this kid and can they defeat him and get out of the snow?


Episode 34: Second Contact / The War Prince Once Again

Five skilled warriors of the Celestial Heavens pop up in front of our heroes again. They want to take the Sutra of Dark Power from Sanzo and force Son Goku to come to their side. The warrior incessantly attacks Goku and put him in constant struggle. All Goku can do is to dodge, leap, and run out of deadly assaults. Soon he will have to be prepared for the worst…


Episode 35: Solitude / Solitary Soul

Kogaiji visits the tomb of the girl he loved profoundly. She was reincarnated into a human. Kogaiji swears the revenge to Son Goku and his teammates who defeated him severely in the battle of Hoto Castle. He summons and awakens the Demon of Recollection for a war of nerve. It is a perilous plan that might eat at his own heart.


Episode 36: Brotherhood / Crimson Flower

Lost into deep woods in the fog and rain, Sanzo and his comrades have to sleep in the open. Sha-Gojyo hates this idea and walks on for a way-out of the woods. He finds a cave and goes in to explore the inside. Soon he realizes he lost his way completely. Then, another man who lost in the cave appears. It is Dokkakuji, the right hand man of Kogaiji. They glare at each other for a moment. Should they fight, or should they help each other to find a way out?


Episode 37: Taciturnity / The Smile that Was Locked Away

Sanzo and his party walk into a village where Cho-Hakkai grew up in the orphanage. Hakkai has mixed feeling of nostalgia and bitterness. In those days, he was a desperate child who never had smiled. He meets Sister Shaohei who spent childhood in the same orphanage. She tells her there’s a boy who never smiles just like little Hakkai. Curious, Hakkai wants to see the boy.


Episode 38: Fleeting Vision / Unfulfilled Promise

Our heroes defeat the monsters in the wood and get a good drink. While drinking, Sanzo recalls the incident involving his master, Kohmyo-Sanzo and himself long time ago. Soon after, Zanzo and his comrades arrive at the village where they join the drinking competition. They win thanks to an unexpected contribution! But, the prize is much more of an unexpected one…!


Episode 39: Misty Rain / Rain

Sanzo is gloomy and depressed in the never-ending rain. Goku worries about Sanzo and tries to cheer him up, but it is no use. Sanzo gets more irritated and says hurtful things to Goku. Upset, Goku runs out of the inn. Suddenly, Konzen appears in front of him. Konzen was Goku's guardian in the Celestial Heavens.


Episode 40: Twilight / The Irate Sun

This episode focuses on Goku's past 500 years ago when he met Konzen Douji. It also deals with Homura's past.


Episode 41: Collage / Quiet Expulsion

One day, Goku wanted to see Nataku and sneaks into the Great Palace. He meets Kenren, the Commander General of the Army of Celestial Heavens. General Kenren is the previous existence of Sha-Gojyo. General Kenren is surprised to see Goku chained with weights on both hands and legs. Then, Nataku returns from the hunt of Gyumao. His body is covered with wounds. Goku worries about Nataku. General Kenren suspects why all the soldiers who went for subjugation have no injuries.


Episode 42: Festival / Unforgettable View

Sanzo's party drops in a town called Saika on the day of Festival of God. They notice that the God the folks worship there is Shien. They do not know why, but Shien comes down to this place today every year. Lilin, a loyal follower of Kogaiji, learns from Ni-Jen-Yi that Shien and tow other Gods took the Hallowed Sutra from Gyokumen-Koshu. Lilin comes up to Saika and wages battle to Shien for the Hallowed Sutra.


Episode 43: Tears / False Town

Zeon hears that one of the Sutras of World Commencement was found in a village. He visits the village to find if this news is true. Soon after he arrives there, Zeon helps a boy attacked by the monsters. He sees his own son's visage on this boy. Meanwhile in a neighboring village our heroes hear a rumor of a monster devouring human’s spirits.


Episode 44: Plunderers / Scripture Stolen

God Homura and his two fellow-Gods are ready to begin the Creation of New World. However, they need Sanzo's Sutra of Dark Power to accomplish their plan. Homura tells Sanzo to bestow the Sutra by the next morning. Sanzo has no intention to give it out. Our heroes know they will have hard battle against Gods. So, they have only shallow sleep. And the battle begins!


Episode 45: Glorious Days / Before Dawn

Goku catches some fish while Sanzo recovers from his wounds. Then we see more of what happened in the past.


Episode 46: Chaos / The Trembling Earth

"The Creation of New World" for Homura, Shien and Zeon has begun. Sanzo and his comrades go to the Tower of Konran where Homura's party are supposed to wait for them. Instead, our heroes are attacked by the force of monsters lead by Gairu. The monsters are so weak that the battle ends instantly. When our heroes walk in further, they know they just passed only a first easy barrier. More enemies are waiting.


Episode 47: Guilty or Not Guilty / Kaizai

Goku resists the attack of Homura's Royal Guards single handedly so that his comrades can go into the Tower to find Homura. The enemy uses an artifice called "Work of Repentance" forcing a person to remember the old wounds in the heart. Goku is stunned when he sees his mother-in-law crying in front of him.


Episode 48: Absolutely Heaven / Door to Freedom

Homura took off Goku's headband to start the progress to realize his perfect world. Kougaiji and his friends show up to take back their scripture!


Episode 49: Missing Desire / Shining Paradise

While Sanzo deals with Demon Goku, Homura dreams of his past and meeting Rin Rei. At the same time Gojyo and the other's have to deal with Zenon in his demon form. Is there hope for any of them?


Episode 50: Alone / Westward

Homura is now all alone. All his minons are gone. But a bolder that will create his new utopia is growing. It's up to Sanzo and Goku to stop him and stop the bolder from reaching critical and destroying the world! Can they do it alone or will the others show up to help?
