La Corda d'Oro ~ Primo Passo
Where words fail, music speaks…. And fills the infinite between two souls. At the Seiso Academy, there are two kinds of students: those enrolled in the world famous music curriculum and those enrolled in the far less demanding general studies program. Kahoko Hino falls into the latter category; a completely average student who isn’t even interested in music. All that changes, however, when Kahoko is given a magic violin by Lili, a fairy who lives inside the academy! Suddenly Kahoko is entered in the Academy’s prestigious music competition, and up against the most elite students in the school! But something wonderful happens, and Kahoko’s pure and dedicated attitude towards music begins to win the hearts of her competitors! The joy of music becomes a path to love and greater understanding in 'La Corda D'Oro' – Primo Passo!

When Kahoko gets too nervous to play in public, Kazuki comes to her rescue. Then, seeing Len bullied, Kahoko comes to his rescue, cutting her fingers in the process – for which Len scolds her. Later, Kaho is surprised to find Ryotaro playing piano.

The day of the first competition has arrived – but Kahoko’s accompaniment has not. All of her hard work may be for naught, as Kahoko cannot participate without an accompanying musician.

Kanazawa takes the group to a music retreat – along with their newest member, Ryotaro. Kahoko finds a selection of Kreisler’s work, a composer who lied to get reviewed by critics. She wonders if she is like him and if she’ll ever play without magic.

Kanazawa takes Kahoko, Keiichi and Fuyuumi shopping in town. Seeing how dedicated and hard-working everyone is to their music, Kahoko agonizes over the unfair advantage the violin’s magic gives her.

The stress of having his famous parents at the second concourse is badly affecting Len. Kahoko, Kazuki and Ryotaro stop by his place after he collapses. Meanwhile, Kahoko struggles to find a new accompanist and music for the second concourse.

Since Kahoko is worried about being on stage again, Ryotaro suggests practicing in public. While trying to find a spot, Amo drags Kahoko and Fuyuumi along on a shopping trip. After running into Keiichi, he and Kahoko attend a free concert at the park.

Len’s parents have arrived for the second concourse. Ryotaro, who admires Len’s mother, opens with a brilliant rendition of Fantasie Impromtu. How can Kahoko follow that? When Len is locked in a closet, will anyone find him in time for his performance?

With Len disqualified, Ryotaro and Kahoko take first and second place. Keiichi ponders why Kahoko’s music, so lacking in technique, is so enjoyable. Kazuki enlists Kahoko to help him shop for his brother, and Azuma tags along to avoid some relatives.

Kahoko is disturbed by Azuma’s hidden nature, but as much as she wants to tell someone, she feels she is as much of a fraud as Azuma Her self-doubt worsens when Kazuki invites her to Oke club, and a hard-working violinst asks for her critique.

Kahoko resolves to practice until she no longer needs the violin’s magic. Pressure mounts until Lili takes away her violin so that she can study for upcoming midterms. Kahoko finds that she misses the violin, something she once thought bothersome.

Kazuki creates a huge misunderstanding when he overhears Kahoko talking about an engagement to Azuma. In truth, he asked Kahoko to help him turn away one of his admirers who is pushing for an arranged marriage.

Trying to decide on a selection for the third concourse, Kahoko, Fuyuumi, Amo and Minami wind up discussing the romantic appeal of the boys – who listen at the door. Kahoko runs into Kazuki, Ryotaro and Ryotaro’s ex at the park.

Ryotaro is considering Mizue’s words and why he has become a softer person, while Kazuki comes to terms with his crush on Kahoko. Osaki recruits Keiichi, Kahoko, Kazuki and Len to help teach violin lessons at a youth rec center.

Everyone is concerned over how depressed Kahoko seems. When Ryotaro learns Len may have something to do with it, it leads to a confrontation that leaves Ryotaro, Len and Kazuki unfocused and confused, just as the third concourse begins.

With the violin broken, just like Kahoko’s resolve to play it, she decides to return to the life she had before the competition – but her friends find it harder to accept a Kahoko who no longer plays the violin.

Kahoko’s withdrawal has Ryotaro and Kazuki reconsidering their dedication to their music. Keiichi finds that he misses the sound of her music.

Kahoko forces herself to ignore the violin she loves, and her friends are suffering for it. They don’t understand why she is abandoning her music. They are excited when she brings the violin to school – but she only means to return it to Lili.

Kahoko determines to play the violin on her own terms. When she asks Len to teach her to restring it, he takes her to a master violin maker’s home to learn more about violins. Without the magic, Kahoko’s music sounds awful–- but she plays on anyway.

Kazuki is still confused over his feeling about his music. Kahoko’s music is still awful, but they help each other find the resolve to continue playing. Azuma leaves for England, but not without one last time teasing Kahoko.

The final selection’s theme is announced – Liberation. Everyone is feeling the loss of Azuma – especially his admirers. At Minami Instruments, an old tape shows that Ryotaro got into music competitions after being inspired by Len.

Len invites Kahoko to the charity concert he and his mother will perform. Kahoko’s music is finally improving by sticking to the score, but Keiichi, Len and Lili remind her that beautiful music is born from the heart.

Today is the final performance, and Azuma has returned. When Minami is injured, Shoji unexpectedly shows up to perform for Kahoko. During last-minute practice, Kahoko reflects on how her friends helped her grow through music.

The competitors go on a sea-side retreat – and Nao, Amo and Mio tease Kahoko about a summer romance. All of the competitors, along with Osaki and Kanazawa, spend time with Kahoko and reflect on how she influenced their music.
