Tomoya Okazaki is a Junior in high school and had a very rough life. When he was little, his mother died in a car accident which made his Father turn to drinking and gambling. Due to his Father's behavior, Tomoya and his Father do not get along and Tomoya has become a delinquent. One day Tomoya meets a girl named Nagisa and they start to hang out together. Tomoya is now beginning to think his life is about to change because of his new friend.

Tomoya Okazaski makes a new friend one day on the way to school. Her name is Nagisa Furukawa. She was held back for one year in school because of absenteeism the year before. Tomoya and her become fast friends so he decides to go to her parents store to meet them.

The next day on the way to school, Tomoya is almost run over by a girl on a scooter named Kyou. Tomoya also has a couple more weird encounters with girls that day. Later on he helps Nagasi with creating posters for the theater group she wants reestablished at the school.

Tomoya is on his way to Nagisa's house for a visit but ends up going to Youhei's house instead. The next day he helps Nagisa out with her theater club.

Tomoya goes to Furukawa's house to pick up Nagisa and Fuuko and head off to school. Once at school, Fuuko tries to find people to attend her sisters wedding. Nagisa invites Fuuko's sister to the Founders Festival.

Tomoya falls asleep at school only to awake to the sound of Kotomi playing the violin. A girl from the music room lent Kotomi the violin and now she wants everyone to hear her.

Kyou tries to purchase a stuffed elephant for Kotomi's upcoming birthday. Just as Kyou is about to give up Fuuko appears convincing her to give her a star instead. The next week Kotomi becomes very upset to learn of a bus accident even though no one was hurt.

Tomoya comes across Kotomi standing with some newspaper clips. This causes him to remember that he met Kotomi when they were kids. He asks her why she did not remind him and she said she thought he did not want to remember her. Tomoya then inquires about the newspaper clippings and she said they are a reminder of her past sins.

One day after a basketball game, the choir club approaches Nagisa with the idea of sharing Moumura as an advisor to both clubs. Nagisa goes to the Student Council with this idea and they turn her down. The next day Tomoya and Kyou get locked in the PE storage room.

Tomoya has been suspended from school so he hangs out in his room all day thinking about Nagisa. Kyou and Ryou show up a little later and they all go to the arcade.

The theater club is finally established once Tomoya has been named president of the student council. Tomoya is summoned to a career counciling meeting between his teacher and his Father. He tries to runaway but is stopped by Nagisa. After overhearing the conversation between his teacher and Father, Tomoya tells Nagisa about his relationship with his Father.

Nagisa decides to do a play about a girl and a robot from another world. While looking through the storage shed for a book about her play, Nagisa and Tomoya are told to leave by Akio.

When Nagisa and Tomoya arrive home, they are greeted by Akio who has a video to show them. The next day at rehearsal, they all discuss the music for the play and Nagisa wants to make this a big hit.

The day of the festival has arrived and Nagisa is upset about what she has happened to her Father.Nagisa is so upset that she breaks down before she can perform in her play.

Tomoya and Nagisa's relationship has not progressed any. Mei decides to pay them a visit in hopes of developing their relationship. Mei is able to convince Nagisa to become closer to Tomoya.

This is the alternate ending episode where we find out that Tomoya and Nagisa have been going out for awhile. However bad rumors have surfaced about the couple that make Tomoya feel like a nuisance.
